Our Learning Philosophy

At Elburn Wildwood Homeschool Collective, we believe the best lessons are found in community and in nature. Rooted in the changing seasons, our programs give children space to wonder, play, and grow — building both life skills and lasting connections along the way.

Our co-op offers something for every age. Littles (ages 0–4) join Forest Sprouts, a gentle introduction to community with outdoor play, story-centered circle time, and hands-on sensory stations. Older children (ages 5–12) take part in Forest Scholars, where each session blends community circles, age-based breakouts, journaling, and seasonal activities in nature. Both programs foster curiosity, connection, and growth while keeping children rooted in the rhythms of the outdoors.

Note: there will be designated space for older students, but no official program.

  • Founder & Teacher

I’m a former elementary and middle school teacher who taught math, ELA, and social studies before stepping into my favorite role yet - being a stay-at-home mom to five little ones, all age six and under.

I believe children learn best through movement, exploration, and time in nature. An approach much like what you see in Finland. There isn’t one “right” timeline for kids to master skills; I know that they will learn when they’re ready and curious.

More than anything, I’ve seen how kids and families thrive when they’re surrounded by a strong, supportive community. That’s why I created this co-op. I want it to be an affordable, nature-rooted space where families can grow, learn, and support one another side by side.

  • Volunteer Lead Teacher

I’m a Marine Corps Veteran and have a background in hospitality. After my first child was born I quickly turned toward being a mother and homemaker. I now steward the land and animals we raise with my three children and husband by my side.

I was a child who struggled in school my whole life, no matter how hard I worked. When I became a mom I became determined to give my children a different experience.

Children should learn to be an important part of the team, in the family and community. I accomplish this through a strong relationship and invitations to help and learn.

I believe learning to exist in life as a wildly capable child is the best way to prepare for adulthood.
